Cocovit products do not use the commonly known coconut oil which is unrefined & cold-pressed. Our unique process extracts the oil with proprietary tool and technique, which uses no heat, solvents, bleaches or deodorizers - all of which prevent contamination, alteration and deterioration of the oil. Our process also allows the oil to remain raw and retain its freshness, essential nutrients and enzymes during the process and in the final product. When heat is used in the extraction process, a high percentage of nutrients and enzymes are eliminated. Our exclusive extraction method is essential for quality of the coconut oil and ensures the retention of the oil's restorative properties. Our process allows us to keep a higher concentration of lauric acid in the oil, which is anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and anti-microbial, making this a product like no other for both hair and skin. Coconuts are the only plant-based source of lauric acid - it's also found in human breast milk.

What qualifies as organic? What is the difference between Cold-Press, Expeller-Press and Cocovit's Process?
Products labeled ‘organic’ confirm the safety of the product, but not necessary a guarantee for the quality. Unfortunately, an organic label does not qualify it as the best product on the market. A coconut oil can go through various processes such as refining with chemicals, bleaching and deodorizing and would still be considered natural. The agencies providing the organic certification do not differentiate between oils made from fresh coconuts, and those made with dried coconut (copra). They also allow use of chemicals for oil extraction. All of these processes negatively affect the quality of the final product. Below are the primary three ways to extract coconut oil:

Cold-pressed coconut oil is the most commonly known oil on the market. It is made from coconut flakes, which are dried with heat. And it has particles of the soluble constituents extracted from the dried coconut meat. The heat process depletes the caprilyc and lauric acids and reduces the antioxidant capacity of the oil. It has a strong coconut smell and flavor.

With the expeller-press process, dried coconut flakes are pressed to output a liquid that is 90% oil and 10% water. Heat is then used to extract the remaining water from the liquid. Similar to the cold-press method, the heat depletes the beneficial nutrients, enzymes and anti-oxidants in the final product. The oil has a medium coconut scent and flavor.

The Cocovit Process: The optimal extraction method is one which uses no heat, a proprietary process we use at Cocovit.
